How Does a Pressure Gauge Work?
A pressure gauge works on the Bourdon tube principle, where internal pressure causes a curved tube to straighten, moving a needle across a calibrated dial:
- Pressure Entry: The pressurized medium enters through the connection port into the Bourdon tube.
- Tube Movement: As pressure increases, the curved tube tends to straighten, causing its tip to move.
- Linkage & Gear: This movement is transferred through a linkage and gear mechanism to the pointer.
- Reading Display: The pointer moves across the graduated dial, indicating the pressure value.
In glycerin-filled gauges, the liquid dampens needle movement, reducing vibration and extending gauge life in demanding applications like CNG stations and hydraulic systems.
